There are said to be 24 yakuza groups in Japan, according to police estimates. Kudo-kai, which now reportedly consists of 280 active members, is not the largest, but is thought to be one of the most vicious, as it was accused of a number of murders and attempts on the life of local business owners for refusing to cooperate or pay protection money.
