Who should play at the next inaugural ball? Here are our picks for every 2020 candidate.

TwitterFacebook

As the 2020 candidate pool continues to grow almost by the day, it's never too early to start planning for January 20, 2021 — and the spectacle that comes with a presidential inauguration.

Yes, I know, we've still got the actual election to get through. But, look, the inauguration is a pretty big deal — a huge party, nationally televised — in which backers of the newly sworn-in president still have hope for the coming term and can bask in the celebratory glow of what's to come.

Across his two inaugurations in 2009 and 2013, Barack Obama hosted the likes of Beyonce, Aretha Franklin, Bruce Springsteen, and Kelly Clarkson across multiple events. By comparison, in 2017, Donald Trump had Toby Keith, 3 Doors Down, and The Piano Guys.  Read more...

Nancy Pelosi outlines the case against impeaching Trump for Jimmy Kimmel

TwitterFacebook

With more Democrats jumping on the "Impeach Trump" bandwagon, House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi took her "hold your damn horses" argument to late night.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Pelosi had a spirited chat with Kimmel about Robert Mueller's Wednesday statement, the Mueller Report in general, and the possible impeachment of President Donald Trump. Pelosi has been slow-rolling the impeachment argument, and here she explains that she wants to make sure they have an "iron-clad" case.

Pelosi's most compelling point: She thinks Trump wants to be impeached. To Pelosi, the Republican-held Senate would acquit Trump which would make a criminal prosecution, once Trump leaves office less likely. Read more...

Verizon teases 5G in NYC in the 'very near future'

TwitterFacebook

Verizon's 5G network launched in downtown Chicago and Minneapolis in early April, and it's stayed in Chicago and Minneapolis. Coverage in Chicago has expanded slightly, but most of Verizon's energy is focused on faster speeds and better beam-forming, not new city launches.

That may change. At the Motorola Z4 launch event, Verizon executive director of product marketing Chris Emmons said Verizon will "hopefully [bring 5G] to New York in the very near future," the most precise thing the carrier has said about a launch date for any of its upcoming cities. Until now, all the cities Verizon would name were coming "by the end of 2019." Read more...

Lil Nas X adopted some nice dogs with the internet's help

TwitterFacebook

Lil Nas X, the internet's favorite source of perpetual good news, has adopted some dogs.

The rapper tweeted two photos of two very cute Bernese Mountain Dogs on Wednesday night with the caption "I have to pick one u guys." Fortunately, Twitter guided him in the right direction — a first for the platform — and convinced him to adopt both.

Explosive 'Rambo: Last Blood' trailer is pure action porn

TwitterFacebook

John Rambo is back for one last fight, and this time he has a murder farm.

Rambo: Last Blood is the fifth and (probably) final installment in the Rambo franchise, starring Sylvester Stallone as the titular Rambo. Following in the footsteps of its predecessors, the latest sequel looks like it's going to be filled with all the hyperviolent action you expect from the series.

In Last Blood, Rambo is looking like a cowboy in the desert and he clearly has some kind of problem with some locals who are armed to the teeth. It doesn't look like they'll be much of a problem for the Vietnam vet who has mastered the art of setting deadly traps and is basically as skilled as Hawkeye with his bow. Read more...

These are the best VPNs for your Android device in the UK

TwitterFacebook

Many people resist the urge to get a decent VPN for their Android phone. Why bother with an extra app just to get online, now that internet connections are ubiquitous?

Over time, however, the scenarios in which you might need a VPN become more common. You could need to check what a site looks like from another geolocation, or test something that isn't available in your country. What often acts as the final straw is being unable to watch some of your favourite TV shows while travelling.

A VPN, or virtual private network, provides an additional layer of privacy when connecting to the internet. It's like using a private tunnel to browse the web, keeping you safe from prying eyes and enabling you to surf as if you were connecting from a server in a different place. Typically, all you need to do as a user is install the app on your smartphone, start it up, choose a server location, and then you can just continue browsing as usual. Read more...

New Google Play policies aim to fix loot boxes, limit sex, and curb hate

TwitterFacebook

In a recent update to its Google Play developer policies, Google addressed loot boxes, sex/nudity, and hate speech in its supported applications.

The specific changes outlined in an expanded Monetization and Ads page require developers with randomized reward items to "clearly disclose the odds of receiving those items in advance of purchase," which could incentivize games to lower loot box probabilities to make their purchase seem more worthwhile.

Loot boxes have come under scrutiny even outside of Google, as the Federal Trade Commission and Missouri Senator John Hawley are launching respective attempts to investigate and potentially ban them — the FTC will host a public workshop in Nov. 2019 to see if loot boxes violate consumer protections and Hawley's reportedly problematic bill aims to outlaw pay-to-win and gambling adjacent monetization in all games marketed to children under 18.  Read more...
