Carol Vorderman Dishes On Her Wild Side, After Winding Up On A Bed On Rag'N'Bone Man's Tour Bus

Carol Vorderman has opened up about her “party animal” ways, following a recent evening spent at a Rag’n’Bone Man concert.

Speaking to Radio Times, Vorders revealed that she doesn’t think the public often get the chance to see her fun-loving side, but insists she’s no stranger to a night out.

She commented: “I am a party animal, let’s not lie about this.

’Richard Whiteley used to say to me, ‘Vorders, you could make trouble in an empty room’. He wasn’t wrong.”

Carol Vorderman

Describing one such example, the former ‘Countdown’ star continued: “People have an image in their heads of who I am and it’s really quite wrong. The party side of me isn’t a side that generally I allow to be seen.

“I went to see Rag’N’Bone Man in concert recently and ended up on someone’s bed in the tour bus. I’m like a grenade you pull the pin on. Life is never, ever dull.”

Rag'N'Bone man performing last month

Carol’s wild ways are far from news to us, though. Who could forget her energetic appearance on ‘Lip Sync Battle’ where she gave her all to a rendition of Meghan Trainor’s ‘All About That Bass’? Or the 12,000ft skydive she took part in earlier this year, prove just what a bad-ass she is?

And while we’re on the subject, there’s also the matter of that naked treadmill accident that had all of us talking last year

Carol spoke to Radio Times ahead of this year’s Pride Of Britain awards, where she once again served as host, as she has every year since the ceremony launched in 1999.

Read her full interview in this week’s Radio Times, on sale now.

'Dancing On Ice' 2018 Line-Up: Cheryl Baker Joins Brooke Vincent On New Series

Cheryl Baker has been confirmed as the second celebrity participant in the new series of ‘Dancing On Ice’.

On Tuesday (31 October), it was announced on ‘Lorraine’ that ITV bosses had made their mind up (yes, yes, we know, we’re sorry), and cast the Bucks Fizz singer for the upcoming reboot, which launches early next year.

She’s since revealed that she has already begun her training, having not been on the ice in more than 50 years, and will meet her professional skating partner in the coming days.

Cheryl is doing little to mask her excitement at being back on the box

Cheryl said: “I started training yesterday. It was such huge fun. I’ve never skated apart from when I was about 12. I am feeling nervous.”

All we’re saying is that if there’s not a re-enactment of this iconic Eurovision moment, we’re not interested...

The news of Cheryl’s casting comes one day after ‘Coronation Street’ star Brooke Vincent became the first star confirmed for the show, having been rumoured ever since reports of plans for a ‘Dancing On Ice’ relaunch first emerged.

Fans can look forward to the return of Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield as presenters, while Jason Gardiner will also be back on the judging panel.

Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean will also be back, but this time will also be on the panel, as will a fourth judge, whose identity is to be revealed in due course.

Other names tipped to be hitting the ice next year include former ‘Great British Bake Off’ winner Candice Brown, reigning ‘Love Island’ champion Kem Cetinay and former royal butler Paul Burrell, while Katie Price has denied her involvement in the new series.

Serial Killer Fears As '9 Dismembered Bodies Found In Tokyo Suburb'

A Japanese man has been arrested after the body parts of up to nine people were reportedly discovered in his apartment just outside of Tokyo.

Police made the grisly find in the property in the city of Zama as they investigated the disappearance of a 23-year-old woman earlier this month.

The woman was seen on security camera footage walking with a man near the apartment, media reports claimed.

A police officer carries a plastic bag from the apartment building where up to nine dismembered bodies were reportedly found

A police spokesman said Takahiro Shiraishi, 27, was arrested on suspicion of abandoning a body, although it was not clear whose body it was.

“Some body parts were found in a picnic cooler, covered with cat litter,” the spokesman said.

According to the Asahi Shimbun, Shiraishi told police: “I severed the body in my apartment and put it in the cooler. I did so to conceal evidence that I killed the person.”

The newspaper adds “a large number of body parts, including heads, legs and arms” were found and that of the nine bodies, eight were apparently those of women.

Members of the press gather at the scene

It was not immediately clear if the suspect had entered a plea or had legal representation.

Kyodo news agency said the unidentified woman posted a message on Twitter saying she was looking for somebody who would die with her. The message reportedly said: “I want to die, but doing so alone is terrible. I’m looking for someone to die with me.”

Police declined to comment on media reports about how many bodies were found in the house.

Prue Leith has done the unthinkable by accidentally revealing who this year’s ‘Great British Bake Off’ winner is, less than 12 hours before tonight’s final.

The judge’s official Twitter account prematurely announced the news on Tuesday morning, in a since hastily deleted tweet.

And don’t worry, we won’t be spoiling anything for you here, although you might want to stay away from all social media for the rest of the day.

The tweet, which was no doubt planned to go out after tonight’s final was tweeted by Sun columnist Dan Wooton.

It read: “No one told me judging a #gbbo final would be so emotional. I wanted them all to win. [REDACTED]”

Oh Prue.

The show’s newest judge immediately expressed her regret over what had happened, telling Press Association: “I’m in too much of a state to talk about it.”

Meanwhile, over on Twitter, it didn’t take long for the memes to arrive...

Kate LyonStephen Carter-Bailey and Sophie Faldo will all battle it out tonight for the coveted prize of ‘Bake Off’ champion 2017, not to mention the inevitable book deal, TV gig and increased bank balance.

Cancer Survivor Collects 80,000 Handwritten Letters Of Love For Other Women With Breast Cancer

A cancer survivor has created an anthology packed with handwritten letters of “encouragement, humour and love” written by strangers to other women with breast cancer.

‘Dear Friend’ by Gina L. Mulligan contains notes written by cancer survivors, their friends and family members, designed to show other patients they are not alone.

Gina was inspired to start collecting the letters after being diagnosed with breast cancer herself at the age of 40 and realising “a few words on paper are more than just a keepsake”.

She began handing out letters to other cancer patients and what started as a small gesture of goodwill in her local community soon turned into a global movement.

Gina L. Mulligan

Gina, who lives in Sacramento, California, says being diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after her 40th birthday was “a shock”, but it wasn’t the diagnosis itself that changed her life.

“The true change came a few weeks later when I started receiving well wishes. I received over 200 letters, mostly from friend of friends,” she says.

“The letters said I was already a hero without telling me I needed to try a special diet or exercise plan.”

Gina, who was a novelist before compiling ‘Dear Friend’, says receiving letters helped her to emotionally “heal” after she’d finished her physical cancer treatment.

“I began wondering if other breast cancer patients were receiving this special form of support,” she says.

“After I won my battle with breast cancer, I knew just what I had to do.”

In 2011, Gina and her husband started the Girls Love Mail (GLM) movement. The couple and a few of their friends would sit around their kitchen table and write letters to women with breast cancer. Gina would then drop the letters off at cancer centres across the state.

“Then the word got out and more letters starting coming in. People wanted to help,” she explains.

“Anyone with a desire to encourage a woman can write a letter. All it takes is a little time and the cost of a postage stamp.”

To date, more then 80,000 letters have been sent to GLM for cancer patients and now, some have been compiled in a book so more women across the world can experience their benefits.

Some of the letters in the book contain the neat, careful handwriting of children while others reveal the swirling, barely legible writing of well-wishers much older - but that’s part of their charm.

The notes contain jokes, personal anecdotes or a simple few words of encouragement an it’s clear they make a difference.

The GLM website contains a whole host of thank you notes written by patients who received the letters.

One women, called Grace, says: “I was just diagnosed with breast cancer. At my doctors office I was given a bag with a lot of information. Inside was a Girls Love Mail envelope. It brought me joy when I was at a loss. I keep it with me for inspiration.”

Another woman, Dagmar, say: “Thank you all for your letter. This is the second time I have breast cancer. It came back after 17 years in the same breast I survived it before I can do it again.”

Gina refers to each GLM letter as “a gift” because of the undeniable joy they bring women.

“In this age of text messages and emails, a hand-written note is precious and restorative,” Gina says.

“Caring doesn’t take grand gestures. Caring can be found in a piece of paper and a pen.”

Year 4 Maths Homework: People Confused Over Question Aimed At Eight-Year-Olds That Doesn't Have A Simple Answer

People are really confused over a maths question aimed at eight- and nine-year-olds with dyslexia, which was shared by a dad on Reddit.

The dad explained there were “no instructions” given to his daughter, who goes to a private school that specialises in teaching children with severe dyslexia.

The question stated: “Janell had 15 marbles. She lost some of them. How many does Janell have now?”

Unlike the other questions on the sheet that all have a definitive answer, question 44 is different.

The Reddit user’s daughter answered with a question mark - and we don’t blame her.

One person commented that the answer is ”< 15″ (which just means less than 15) but he added: “I don’t think that’s a fair third grade question.”

Others came out with extremely complicated algebraic equations (“Answer: 15 - n {n ∈ ℤ | 1<n<15}”) and some just commented: “Janell has lost her marbles”.

The dad said he had not yet asked the teacher about the confusing question as he kept forgetting.

What do you think?

J.K. Rowling receives Donald Trump newsletter and her response was as scathing as you'd expect

TwitterFacebook

Some people might be happy with the offer of a limited edition Donald Trump coin, but J.K. Rowling is not one of those people.

On Monday afternoon, not long after she'd blasted Trump on Twitter for his use of shouty capital letters, the Harry Potter author received a strange offer.

Apparently, to "CELEBRATE TRUMP'S VICTORY OVER THE NAY-SAYERS", Rowling was being offered a coin with Donald Trump's face on it.

Unsurprisingly, her response was less than enthusiastic.

‘More Hospital Treatment Required For Tooth Decay Than Broken Arms In Under-10s’

The number of children under the age of 10 needing hospital treatment because of tooth decay is twice as high as the number needing help for a broken arm, according to new analysis.

While arm fractures are one of the more common ailments for youngsters, hospital medics are treating twice as many children with rotten teeth, according to data shared with the Press Association.

Between April 2016 and March 2017, there were 34,205 cases of children under the age of 10 needing treatment in hospital in England as a result of tooth decay, the Faculty of Dental Surgery (FDS) at the Royal College of Surgeons found.

This compares to 17,043 cases for arm fractures, according to the analysis of NHS Digital data.

During this period, there were 19,584 cases of children under 10 needing hospital treatment for asthma, there were 10,397 spells of hospital care for epilepsy, and 3,805 for appendicitis.

Overall, there were 45,224 cases of children and teenagers aged from infancy up to 19 who needed hospital treatment because of tooth decay in 2016/17.

The youngest patient was less than a year old, the FDS said.

Despite the fact that tooth decay is preventable in 90% of cases, it is the most common reason that children aged between five and nine need treatment in hospital, the FDS added.

In 2015/16, there were 25,875 cases of children in this age group needing hospital care for tooth decay.

This rose to 25,923 in 2016/17.

Among 10 to 14-year-olds, admissions also rose from 7,249 to 7,303.

But the FDS said the data showed some progress among children aged one to four, with the number of children needing hospital treatment for tooth decay among this age group falling from 8,800 in 2015/16 to 8,281 in 2016/17.

It has backed a campaign from the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry calling for all children to receive a dental check by the age of one.

Analysis by the faculty earlier this year showed that nearly four in five children aged between one and two had not seen an NHS dentist in the previous 12 months.

This is despite the fact that NHS dental care for children is free.

Parents are advised to take their children to the dentist when their first milk teeth appear.

Professor Michael Escudier, dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons, said: “No-one wants to see their child in hospital.

“Sometimes this can be unavoidable, but when it comes to admissions caused by tooth decay, most cases are a result of simple preventative steps not being taken.

“Tens of thousands of children every year are having to go through the distressing experience of having teeth removed under general anaesthetic. Reducing sugar consumption, regularly brushing teeth with fluoride toothpaste and routine dental visits will all help ensure this is avoided.

“The problem is compounded by the fact that many children are simply not going to the dentist, with parents often unaware that NHS dental treatment is free for all under-18s.

“Dental visits in the first years of life enable children, as well as their parents and carers, to learn about good oral health practice.

“These visits also familiarise children with the dental environment, getting them comfortable in a dentist’s chair. This instils a first positive impression of dentistry, rather than a potentially scary and unpleasant one if their first visit is because there is a problem or, even worse, if they need to have teeth removed under general anaesthetic.

“It is encouraging that already there are several initiatives to help improve child oral health. However, there is still much to be done, particularly to ensure that we do not leave certain groups of patients behind.”

MPs will discuss child oral health during a Westminster Hall debate.

A Department of Health spokeswoman said: “Improving oral health in children is a priority for this Government – latest figures show 6.8 million children were seen by a dentist in England over the past year.

“Last month, NHS England began its Starting Well programme that targeted 13 high-need areas to improve dental hygiene in children under five.

“Further work is also under way to ensure dental services meet the needs of the local population.”

Government Gambling Crackdown 'Deeply Disappointing,' Says Labour

Labour has dismissed the government’s plan to cut the maximum stake on fixed-odds betting terminals from £100 to between £50 and £2 as “deeply disappointing”.

Tom Watson, the party’s deputy leader and shadow culture secretary, said gambling was “destroying lives” and the proposals did not go far enough.

“Over the last six years there has been an explosion in gambling addiction, we think there is a hidden epidemic of gambling addiction in Britain,” he told BBC Radio 4′s Today programme.

Currently people can spend £100 every 20 seconds, allowing a player to theoretically gamble away £18,000 an hour.

On Tuesday, Culture minister Tracey Crouch launched a 12-week consultation on the proposals, which are aimed at reducing the potential for large losses on the machines.

“It is vital that we strike the right balance between socially-responsible growth and protecting the most vulnerable, including children, from gambling-related harm,” she said.

But Watson said Crouch had “squandered a real opportunity to curb highly addictive fixed odds betting terminals, which can cause real harm to individuals, their families and local communities”.

“This response from the government is deeply disappointing,” he said. “After months of delays they’ve simply decided to have another consultation.”

Watson added: “And instead of taking firm measures on the proliferation of gambling advertising, on TV and online, the Government have again been found wanting.

“Britain is suffering from a hidden epidemic of gambling addiction. The measures announced today will do very little for those suffering from gambling addiction and for the millions, including hundreds of thousands of children, who are at risk of developing an addiction.

“Labour is committed to reducing the maximum stake for FOBTs to £2 a spin and will ban gambling company advertising on football shirts.”

The Campaign for Fairer Gambling said the organisation welcomed the consultation.

“The options indicate that the government will consider reducing the maximum stake on FOBTs to £2 a spin. We are confident that, when all the evidence has been considered, £2 will be judged to be the most appropriate level,” a spokesperson said.

Billy Eichner and Stephen Colbert help get puppies adopted by dressing them up for Halloween

TwitterFacebook

Being a chat show host comes with perks. Doggo perks.

Billy Eichner appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday night and helped the host in the ever popular segment "Rescue Dog Rescue," in which they tell lies about adorable rescue dogs in order to help find them a home.

Unfortunately Eichner is allergic to dogs so Colbert got to hold all the puppers, which were all dressed up for Halloween. There was a little canine pope, a banana and even a football player (who according to Eichner doesn't believe in climate change). Read more...

British actor Charlie Heaton, a.k.a. Jonathan Byers in Netflix's Stranger Things, has issued a statement after being reportedly detained and barred entry to the U.S. last week.

Duke Of Cambridge Will Teach Prince George What To Do In An Emergency After Being Inspired At Pride Of Britain

The Duke of Cambridge was inspired by a five-year-old who saved her mum’s life by calling 999 and said he was going to teach Prince George to do the same.

Prince William was speaking to five-year-old Suzie McCash, from North Tyneside, at the Pride of Britain awards on Monday 30 October when he heard about her story.

Suzie, who won a ‘Child of Courage’ award, was just four years old when she called 999 after her mum, Rowena, collapsed and stopped breathing.

“I have a four-year-old called George and if I gave him a telephone I do not know what he would do,” the Duke told Suzie at the awards ceremony, according to the Telegraph.

The Duke of Cambridge meets Suzie McCash as he attends The Pride of Britain Awards 2017, at Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London.

The Duke continued: “And do you know what? I’m going to have a conversation with my George about what to do because of what you’ve done.

“It’s really important.”

Suzie’s mum, Rowena, suffers from a life-threatening allergy to salicylates, often found in tiny traces in oranges and almonds.

One afternoon Rowena collapsed in the hallway and struggled to breathe. Suzie called 999 and explained her mum’s symptoms to the emergency call handler.

She told the operator: “Mummy’s got her eyes closed,” and “I’m not sure if mummy can talk,” before getting her mum’s epi-pen.

When the paramedics arrived, Suzie let them in and they gave lifesaving treatment to Rowena. She recovered in hospital.

Suzie said about the incident: “Mummy had an anaphylactic shock and I rang 999. I then got her medicine to make her feel better. They said I should hold mummy’s hand, so I did.”

Superintendent Nicola Musgrove from Northumbria Police said: “Had it not been for the quick actions of Suzie, Rowena would undoubtedly have died.”

You Can Now Burn A 'Stranger Things' Bleeding Nose Candle While Binge-Watching Netflix

‘Stranger Things’ fans can now keep the memory of their favourite Netflix series alive by pre-ordering a (somewhat weird) bleeding nose candle.

The large, white ceramic candle holder vaguely resembles everyone’s favourite psychokinetic gal Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown.

When you burn a red candle in the holder, the wax drips through her nostrils and creates a more sanitary version of a nosebleed. (Quick explainer for those who haven’t seen ‘Stranger Things’, every time Eleven uses her psychokinetic powers she gets a nosebleed.)

The candle is now available to pre-order from homeware and lifestyle retailer Firebox for £29.99. It is expected to be in stock on 14 Dec 2017, just in time for Christmas.

Sarah Kabunga, buyer at Firebox, said: “After a series of harrowing experiments in a shady forest laboratory, we have finally managed to make this decorative ornament bleed from the nose.

“We had also created The Barb Candle, but that one has... mysteriously disappeared.” (Ooh we see what she did there.)

Sarah added: “Firebox exists to give people a more exciting alternative to what is already out there in the homeware and lifestyle category. We’re all about creating new, exciting products that our customers won’t have seen elsewhere by working with like-minded, independent designers to bring our ideas to life.

This giant ornament comes with two red candles and there’s even a handy ‘nose picker’ tool in case Eleven gets a nostril blockage.

Nice.
