Earlier this week, the Pentagon’s Defense Research Projects Agency (DARPA) announced a milestone for self-flying aircraft: it had tested its Aircrew Labor In-Cockpit Automation System (ALIAS) on a helicopter. The test demonstrated that helicopter maker Sikorsky’s MATRIX software could perform some basic operations autonomously.
