Iceland is no stranger to volcanic activity. However, the Reykjanes Peninsula remained dormant for 800 years until March 2021, when the Fagradalsfjall volcano awoke. There have been two more eruptions since and volcanologists believe this cycle of renewed activity could last decades or centuries.
