Wordle today: Here's the answer and hints for June 1
There's a fresh Wordle today, as there is every day, and boy, is it a DOOZY. (That's not today's answer, by the way.) Struggling? We did too. But now we're here with some tips and tricks to help you figure out the solution.
If you just want to be told the answer, you can scroll to the end of this article for June 1's Wordle solution revealed. But if you'd rather solve it yourself, keep reading for some clues, tips, and strategies to assist you.
Where did Wordle come from?
Originally created by engineer Josh Wardle as a gift for his partner, Wordle rapidly spread to become an international phenomenon, with thousands of people around the globe playing every day. Alternate Wordle versions created by fans have even sprung up, including battle royale Squabble, music identification game Heardle, and variations like Dordle and Quordle that make you guess multiple words at once.
Wordle eventually became so popular that it was purchased by the New York Times, and TikTok creators even livestream themselves playing.
Not the day you're after? Here's the Wordle answer for May 31.
What's the best Wordle starting word?
The best Wordle starting word is the one that speaks to you. But if you like being strategic in your approach, we have a few ideas to help you pick a word that might help you find the solution faster. One tip is to select a word that includes at least two different vowels, plus some common consonants like S, T, R, or N.
What happened to the Wordle archive?
The entire archive of past Wordle puzzles used to be available for anyone to enjoy whenever they felt like it. Unfortunately, it has since been taken down, with the website's creator stating it was done at the request of the New York Times.
Is Wordle getting harder?
It might feel like Wordle is getting harder, but it actually isn't any more difficult than when it first began. You can turn on Wordle's Hard Mode if you're after more of a challenge, though.
Why are there two different Wordle answers some days?
Though usually Wordle will only accept one correct solution per day, occasionally it will rebel against the norm and deem two different answers acceptable. This is due to changes the New York Times made to Wordle after it acquired the puzzle game.
The Times has since added its own updated word list, so this should happen even less frequently than before. To avoid any confusion, it's a good idea to refresh your browser before getting stuck into a new puzzle.
Here's a subtle hint for today's Wordle answer:
If you played it in Scrabble, it would be worth 33 points — even before any bonus squares.
Does today's Wordle answer have a double letter?
It certainly does!
Today's Wordle is a 5-letter word that ends with...
Today's Wordle ends with the letter Y.
What's the answer to Wordle today?
Get your last guesses in now, because it's your final chance to solve today's Wordle before we reveal the solution.
Drumroll please!
The solution to Wordle #712 is...
JAZZY.
Don't feel discouraged if you didn't manage to guess it this time. There will be a new Wordle for you to stretch your brain with tomorrow, and we'll be back again to guide you with more helpful hints.

'Quordle' today: Here are the answers and hints for May 30
If Quordle is a little too challenging today, you've come to the right place for hints. There aren't just hints here, but the whole Quordle solution. Scroll to the bottom of this page, and there it is. But are you sure you need all four answers? Maybe you just need a strategy guide. Either way, scroll down, and you'll get what you need.
What is Quordle?
Quordle is a five-letter word guessing game similar to Wordle, except each guess applies letters to four words at the same time. You get nine guesses instead of six to correctly guess all four words. It looks like playing four Wordle games at the same time, and that is essentially what it is. But it's not nearly as intimidating as it sounds.
Is Quordle harder than Wordle?
Yes, though not diabolically so.
Where did Quordle come from?
Amid the Wordle boom of late 2021 and early 2022, when everyone was learning to love free, in-browser, once-a-day word guessing games, creator Freddie Meyer says he took inspiration from one of the first big Wordle variations, Dordle — the one where you essentially play two Wordles at once. He took things up a notch, and released Quordle on January 30. Meyer's creation was covered in The Guardian six days later, and now, according to Meyer, it attracts millions of daily users. Today, Meyer earns modest revenue from Patreon, where dedicated Quordle fans can donate to keep their favorite puzzle game running.
How is Quordle pronounced?
“Kwordle.” It should rhyme with “Wordle,” and definitely should not be pronounced exactly like "curdle.”
Is Quordle strategy different from Wordle?
Yes and no.
Your starting strategy should be the same as with Wordle. In fact, if you have a favorite Wordle opening word, there’s no reason to change that here. We suggest something rich in vowels, featuring common letters like C, R, and N. But you do you.
After your first guess, however, you’ll notice things getting out of control if you play Quordle exactly like Wordle.
What should I do in Quordle that I don’t do in Wordle?
Solving a Wordle puzzle can famously come down to a series of single letter-change variations. If you’ve narrowed it down to “-IGHT,” you could guess “MIGHT” “NIGHT” “LIGHT” and “SIGHT” and one of those will probably be the solution — though this is also a famous way to end up losing in Wordle, particularly if you play on “hard mode.” In Quordle, however, this sort of single-letter winnowing is a deadly trap, and it hints at the important strategic difference between Wordle and Quordle: In Quordle, you can't afford to waste guesses unless you're eliminating as many letters as possible at all times.
Guessing a completely random word that you already know isn't the solution, just to eliminate three or four possible letters you haven’t tried yet, is thought of as a desperate, latch-ditch move in Wordle. In Quordle, however, it's a normal part of the player's strategic toolset.
Is there a way to get the answer faster?
In my experience Quordle can be a slow game, sometimes dragging out longer than it would take to play Wordle four times. But a sort of blunt-force guessing approach can speed things up. The following strategy also works with Wordle if you only want the solution, and don’t care about having the fewest possible guesses:
Try starting with a series of words that puts all the vowels (including Y) on the board, along with some other common letters. We've had good luck with the three words: “NOTES,” “ACRID,” and “LUMPY.” YouTuber DougMansLand suggests four words: “CANOE,” “SKIRT,” “PLUMB,” and “FUDGY.”
Most of the alphabet is now eliminated, and you’ll only have the ability to make one or two wrong guesses if you use this strategy. But in most cases you’ll have all the information you need to guess the remaining words without any wrong guesses.
If strategy isn't helping, and you're still stumped, here are some hints:
Are there any double or triple letters in today’s Quordle words?
One word has a double letter.
Are any rare letters being used in today’s Quordle like Q or Z?
No.
What do today’s Quordle words start with?
C, R, B, and C.
What are the answers for today’s Quordle?
Are you sure you want to know?
There’s still time to turn back.
OK, you asked for it. The answers are:
-
CADET
-
RIPEN
-
BREAD
-
CREED

The most badass Latin phrases
Want to impress your friends with your erudite ways? Eager to utter completely vicious phrases that people will have to look up later? Looking for a more educated way to talk trash online? Then you, my friend, need to brush up on your Latin. The phrases below are all worth committing to memory if for no other reason than that quidquid latine dictum sit, altum videtur.
Vincit qui se vincit.
He conquers who conquers himself.
Used as a motto by many schools, this phrase speaks to the importance of first getting yourself under control, mastering your urges and temptations, before trying to control the outside world. Also, fun fact, it can be seen on a stained glass window at the beginning of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.
Carthago delenda est.
Carthage must be destroyed.
The Second Punic War, fought between 218 and 201 BC, was a rough one for Rome, as they initiated it only to get spanked in a very real way by Hannibal and his elephants. Following the war, noted hardass Cato the Elder would end his speeches with this phrase, which these days can be used to add emphasis and vehemence to an argument.
Non ducor, duco.
I am not led, I lead.
The motto of São Paulo, Brazil, this phrase is a great, albeit somewhat aggressive way to assert your dominance while also letting folks know that you’ve read a few books. It corrects anyone under the mistaken assumption that you aren’t the absolute boss and/or innovator of any given situation.
Gladiator in arena consilium capit.
The gladiator is formulating his plan in the arena.
This one comes to us from the philosopher, statesman and dramatist Seneca the Younger. It refers to the time just prior to a gladiator’s battle, when the warrior is already in the arena preparing to fight. Basically, it’s a more badass way to say “We’re already pregnant,” or, in other words: You’re too damn late.
Aqua vitae.
Water of life.
Most of the phrases listed here have at least some kind of connection to war, combat, and struggle, but this one is a little different. Aqua vitae can be used to refer to any kind of liquor, whether it’s done sincerely while talking about that single barrel scotch you’ve been saving, or more ironically for a case of PBR.
Tweet may have been deleted (opens in a new tab)
Sic semper tyrannis.
Thus always to tyrants.
These days, this phrase is mostly known as what John Wilkes Booth may or may not have shouted out while assassinating President Abraham Lincoln. That association is a shame, however, as it’s a much older phrase, with a far less problematic, but equally murderous history.
Prior to its debated use by Booth, the phrase was placed on the official seal of the commonwealth of Virginia, which also featured a female warrior, representing virtue, standing upon a defeated king, representing tyranny. The phrase is all about how tyrants tend to meet brutal ends, which explains why the phrase is so closely connected with a much earlier assassination: That of Julius Caesar.
Astra inclinant, sed non obligant.
The stars incline us, they do not bind us.
I love this one because it’s about as bold a one-line refutation of fatalism as you can imagine. The phrase means that while fate — whether determined by the stars, the gods or something else entirely — might nudge us in a certain direction, we are never forced in it. Free will exists, and the decision of what to do in any circumstance is ultimately our own.
Aut cum scuto aut in scuto.
Either with shield or on shield.
This is actually a Latin version of an earlier Greek phrase. In Sparta, mothers were said to tell their war-bred children to either come back carrying their shield or on it. At first, that might not make a lot of sense, but when you acknowledge the size and weight of a Spartan shield, the tendency of deserters to leave it behind and the tradition of carrying dead soldiers back home upon their shield, the meaning becomes clear: Don’t surrender, never give up.
Igne natura renovatur integra.
Through fire, nature is reborn whole.
So this one’s a little confusing. First up, you need to know about INRI, an acronym for Iesus Nazarenus, Rex Iudaeorum, which means "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews," a phrase that was said to have been inscribed on the cross upon which Jesus was crucified. Later, as part of alchemical and occult studies, this Latin backronym was created, which refers to the cleansing power of fire and the ever-repeating cycle of death and life.
Flectere si nequeo superos, Acheronta movebo.
If I can not bend the will of Heaven, I shall move Hell.
Originally spoken by Juno in Virgil’s Aeneid, this phrase is perhaps best-known today for appearing as a dedication in Sigmund Freud’s The Interpretation of Dreams. But as for how to use it, it kind of works as a piece of all-purpose badassery, something to utter or growl when you’ve been stymied or prevented from achieving your goal. Give it extra punch by taking some liberties with the translation, telling people who ask that it means “If I can’t move heaven, I shall raise hell.”
Oderint dum metuant.
Let them hate so long as they fear.
I was first exposed to this phrase from its use on a t-shirt for professional wrestler Triple H, who has a long history of using different Latin phrases on his merchandise and entrance videos. This one fits Triple H perfectly, as he has a reputation for being a brutal, somewhat mercenary talent within WWE, so it’s appropriate that he would borrow a line from one of Rome’s most brutal dictators: Caligula.

How to unblock ESPN+ for free from outside the U.S.
SAVE 49%: ExpressVPN is the top choice for unblocking streaming sites like ESPN+. A one-year subscription to ExpressVPN is on sale for £81.38 and includes an extra three months for free — 49% off for a limited time.
Travel and streaming do not mix. Some of the biggest and best streaming platforms in the world are only available in certain countries, meaning you could be blocked if you attempt to sign in to your favourite site from abroad. This isn't really fair on loyal subscribers, so we're happy to report that there is something you can do to bypass these online restrictions.
It is possible to bypass online blockades to access leading streaming sites with a VPN.
Can you watch ESPN+ from outside the U.S.?
ESPN+ is the official streaming service for ESPN, but it's only available in the U.S. That means you'll need to use a VPN to connect from outside the country. VPNs can hide your real IP address and connect you to a secure server in the U.S., which tricks sites like ESPN+ into providing you with access from anywhere in the world.
The process of bypassing geo-restrictions is actually really simple with a streaming-friendly VPN:
-
Sign up for a VPN
-
Download the app to your device of choice (the best VPNs have apps for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Linux, and more)
-
Open up the app and connect to a server in the U.S.
-
Connect to ESPN+
-
Watch your favourite ESPN+ content from anywhere in the world.
ExpressVPN remains the top choice for unblocking streaming sites, including Netflix, Prime Video, and yes, ESPN+. ExpressVPN offers access to a large and diverse network of servers for streaming, with an intuitive app and interface, strong connection speeds, and up to five simultaneous connections. ExpressVPN also has a robust privacy policy, so your data and identity will remain secure at all times.
Can you unblock ESPN+ for free?
The best VPNs for streaming are not free, but most do tend to offer generous money-back guarantees. ExpressVPN is one of these services, with a 30-day money-back guarantee that can come in handy if you're only travelling for a short time. You can subscribe to ExpressVPN to unblock ESPN+ when you're outside the U.S., and then recover your investment when you return. This way you can unblock and watch ESPN+ for free from outside the U.S.
A one-year subscription to ExpressVPN is on sale for £81.38 and includes an extra three months for free — 49% off for a limited time. This discounted plan includes a year of free unlimited cloud backup and the 30-day money-back guarantee. If you choose to not continue with the service, you can get your cash back without hassle.

G, B, C, and S.
What are the answers for today’s Quordle?
Are you sure you want to know?
There’s still time to turn back.
OK, you asked for it. The answers are:

The best pizza ovens of 2023 — these are the ones we tested and loved
Whether you're particular about the kind of pizza you like, or you're just an outdoor cooking enthusiast, a pizza oven is a handy gadget to have in your backyard (or on your countertop). Most models on the market now can churn out wood-fired Neapolitan pies, crispy thin crust versions, and even decadent Chicago-style deep dish pizza.
There are also plenty of portable models small enough to take in the car for your next weekend camping (or glamping) trip, football game tailgate, or picnic lunch — just make sure you check the fire restrictions in your area before cranking up the heat for a homemade pie.
How hot do pizza ovens get?
While the conventional oven in your kitchen probably only gets up to 500 or 550 degrees Fahrenheit, pizza ovens need extreme heat for quick dough rising times and optimal crust bubble-age. You can expect a good outdoor pizza oven to reach 900 to 950 degrees Fahrenheit, but you can still achieve charred leopard-spotted Neapolitan pizzas at 700 to 750 degrees Fahrenheit.
How fast do pizza ovens cook?
Given that most pizza ovens run at an insane heat, cooking time happens FAST. We're talking start to finish in as little as 60 seconds up to a few minutes. You definitely won't have time to pop your pizza in and scroll on TikTok while you wait for it to cook. Cooking with a pizza oven requires dedicated attention due to the quick cooking times, and you'll also have to learn how to manage the heat on your oven while you chef it up.
Gas vs. wood pizza oven
Most of the outdoor pizza ovens on the market run on either wood or propane gas, with a few natural gas options. A wood-powered stove will give you an amazing smoky taste, but it requires more work to maintain a fire while you cook. Gas-powered stoves, on the other hand, won't offer the same smokiness but are generally easier to manage, and can easily be preheated before cooking. Gas pizza ovens also hold the temperature steady with little fluctuation.
If you're looking for a pizza oven to use indoors, the pickings for quality ovens are pretty slim (with the exception of our pick, the Breville Pizzaiolo). All indoor-friendly pizza ovens will be powered by electricity though, FYI.
If you're ready to ditch the weekly Friday night Domino's delivery, check out these hands-on tested pizza ovens to make your perfect slice at home.

The Netflix password sharing crackdown is here. Check your inbox.
Netflix has begun sending out emails informing U.S. users that the halcyon days of password sharing are over. While you're still technically able to share your account with people outside your household, you're now no longer able to do so for free.
According to a sample email shared in Netflix's blog post, you'll now have to pay an additional $7.99 per month for an extra member slot if you want to share a Netflix account outside your household.
Unfortunately, extra member slots are only available under Netflix's Standard or Premium plans, which cost $15.49 or $19.99 per month respectively. Standard plans allow for one extra member, while Premium subscriptions permit two.
Alternatively, you can save a profile from a previously shared account by transferring it to a new paid membership, ensuring its watch list and recommendations remain intact.
Though unless the owner of said profile is willing to sit through commercials on Netflix's Standard with ads plan, it'll work out cheaper to pay the $7.99 per month for an extra member slot provided your subscription plan supports it. Netflix's cheapest plan is its $6.99 per month Standard with ads plan, while the next level up is its Basic plan for $9.99 per month.
Extra member accounts do come with some extra restrictions. Extra members can only watch Netflix or download titles on one device at a time, and can only have one profile. It can't be a Kids profile either, so you're out of luck if you wanted to share Netflix with your child but not your ex. The account has to be created and activated in the same country as the main account owner's as well.
However, extra members also have their own passwords, which is particularly useful if you're a nightmare security gremlin who uses the same password for everything.
Netflix has stressed that users will still be able to use its service while travelling, so you'll still be able to fall asleep to Love is Blind in your hotel room. However, if you're away from home for an "extended period of time" you may need to request a temporary access code to keep using your account.
Suddenly being charged for a feature they've been enjoying for free will undoubtedly leave a bad taste in many users' mouths. Netflix seems aware of that, as well as the fact that "members have many entertainment choices" — such as Hulu, Prime Video, Apple TV+, Paramount+, Disney+, and the newly-relaunched Max.
As such, Netflix stated it "continue[s] to invest heavily in a wide variety of new films and TV shows" to keep customers coming back, such as its recent $2.5 billion investment in South Korean entertainment.

'The Color Purple' musical trailer promises to break your heart
The official trailer for the film adaptation of the Color Purple musical has arrived, and it looks primed to hurt just as much as ever.
Based on the Tony Award-winning 2005 musical, which is itself based on Alice Walker's 1982 novel, The Color Purple follows Celie (Fantasia Barrino), a Black woman in the rural southern U.S. during the early 1900s. In case that mere concept wasn't enough of a hint, consider this a warning: It may be a musical, but don't expect any feel-good Hairspray vibes here.
The film also stars Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, H.E.R., Corey Hawkins, and Ciara as Celie's sister Nettie. Phylicia Mpasi plays a young Celie, while The Little Mermaid star Halle Bailey plays a young Nettie.
The Color Purple's production team reunites Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, and Quincy Jones, who also served as producers on the classic 1985 film of the same name. Joining them is Scott Sanders, who produced the stage musical alongside Winfrey and Jones.
The Color Purple arrives in theatres Dec. 25.
