Amazon.com burns for the Amazon that 'really matters' with this Chrome Extension

While the Amazon rainforest burned, Amazon dot com inadvertently capitalized on related search traffic.

Now, two developers are calling attention to the devastating fires in the Amazon with a new Chrome extension. As spotted by Vice, the "Amazon Is Burning" extension superimposes pixelated flames onto Amazon dot com, showing the site's daily deals engulfed in a digital inferno. 

After the fire conquers the site, users are prompted to donate to the conservation nonprofit Rainforest Trust. The developers write that they created the extension to help users "Turn your attention to the Amazon that really matters." Read more...

'13 Reasons Why' Season 3: Where do we go from here?

Warning: The following post contains spoilers for 13 Reasons Why Season 3, as well as mentions of sexual assault.

13 Reasons Why Season 3 wasn't screened for critics, and that alone gave me pause. The only explanation seemed that Netflix wanted to avoid negative reviews before the show's August 23 release, so I braced for the worst until that day came.

Though often sloppy or ham-fisted, 13 Reasons Why Season 3 is, at the very least, less offensive and irresponsible than I've come to expect from the show. It's a bloated season, often treading water and creating cumbersome subplots to pad 13 hour-long episodes. And it's an emotional rollercoaster – not only because of heavy topics the show loves to tackle, but because it continues to struggle with how exactly to approach them, often to mixed effect. Almost three weeks after the shut down, calls for the re-opening of the Freedom for Immigrants hotline persist, per NBC News. 

OITNB has been praised for its ability to represent stories that mimic those of real, incarcerated women on-screen. In line with the show's overarching activist narrative, Diane Guerrero's character Maritzia has a true-to-life deportation storyline in the show's final season. With an immigration hearing looming on the horizon, Maritzia calls Freedom for Immigrants' toll-free hotline in search of a pro-bono lawyer. As Hurricane Dorian approaches, scooters are removed from the streets

Lime, Spin and other companies are pulling scooters off the streets in Florida over concerns they could become dangerous projectiles during Hurricane Dorian.

Miami officials told scooter companies to retrieve their vehicles by Friday. Dorian is forecast to make landfall along the Atlantic coast of Florida as early as Labor Day weekend, or early next week, as a Category 4 storm with winds of up to 140 miles per hour.
